I wanted to introduce my kids to the different states, keep it fun and yet I needed it to be able to balance between their different ages of nine and six. So, I purchased a floor puzzle of the U.S.A. by Melissa & Doug Toys . It was a only $5 , what a deal!

They were both able to cooperate and help each other to assemble all the pieces together. Next, I had them choose states and read their name or loud. Some were difficult to pronounce, so spelling and Language Arts in.

Then, I had them get some construction paper, color of their choice. They each picked different states and cut the paper out to the shape of the state. The assignment was to label the name of their state. Next, they had to find out the state flower, food, animal and flag.

They were allowed to help each other and used their computers to look information up.

Lastly, they had to each present their findings and show what they learned about their state.

This allows us to move through each state and do it in a fun manner, while making learning something they enjoy!
